Client Case: Simcoe Hall

Long-serving non-profit needed a refresh.

Simcoe Hall is the largest food bank in Durham Region.  Since 1935 Simcoe Hall has been supporting Oshawa’s families with programs including children’s toy and backpack programs, after school programs, Seniors club, Holiday hamper program, day camps and more.

With over 2,400 clients served each month, as the economy continues to negatively impact local families Simcoe Hall is faced with a swelling roster of people in need.  Their need for community support has never been greater and so we were incredibly pleased to be involved in this project.

The Problem

In late 2022 Simcoe Hall was experiencing tremendous demand for their programs and at the same time several organizational changes were underway due to retirements and personnel development.  They wanted a fresh look and needed a new resource to manage website development and maintenance that was friendly and cost-effective.

The Solution

Meeting with Golden Heart Ventures Inc. in December 2022 a plan was developed for a website REFRESH that would result in a new home page, better website functionality, improved content including new graphics and calls to action and a responsive design that made it easy for anyone to use with a cell phone or on a laptop.

The first step for GHV was to conduct a page-by-page audit of the current site and provide a detailed proposal that outlined the current vs future-state changes required to achieve Simcoe Hall’s goals.  Items like broken links, duplicate information and outdated sponsors and events were quick fixes, and new graphics were designed in consultation to enhance Simcoe Hall’s wonderful message about how far they have come as a mainstay through Oshawa’s development.

The Result

Simcoe Hall’s team is proud of the new website and continue to make better use of its features and design to draw attention for Corporate Sponsors, Program attendees and Donors.  Visitors can register for programs more easily with embedded forms and the new Home Page makes it easier for visitors to quickly get to the information they need and see the special messages Simcoe Hall wants to communicate through an active “pop-up” feature.

No additional costly plug-ins were used to complete the makeover and GHV is available to help with maintenance or any other requirements on an as-needed basis.
